LEICESTER are pleased to confirm the management structure for their Lion Cubs side in the National League this season.
The club are entering the third tier for the first time and have assembled a wealth of exciting young talent in their line-up, including local youngsters Dan and Joe Thompson, who turn 15 in April.
The Lion Cubs will be overseen by co-promoter Dave Darcy, in conjunction with club official David Howard – who was in charge when Leicester took part in the National Trophy competition in 2014.
The main race-night for the Lion Cubs is confirmed as Saturday, meaning when the senior Lions are without a home fixture there will still be action at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena throughout the season.
The Lion Cubs are part of an eight-team National League, and have been drawn against Mildenhall in the quarter-finals of the KO Cup. The first NL fixture is expected to take place after Easter.
Darcy said: “This is a new enterprise for Leicester and an exciting one at that. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to do our bit in helping to develop young British talent and I see it as a pathway for the riders to eventually graduate into the senior Leicester team.
“David Howard has been a key person at the club since we opened in 2011, and he will be a real asset to making this project a success.
“David is the ideal person to assist me in team-managing the side as he is organised, a good communicator and knows the rules inside-out!
“We will arrange the fixture dates around the senior team commitments, so wherever possible Saturday night will be speedway night in Leicester throughout the season - either to watch the seniors race in the Championship, or the Lion Cubs in the National League.”
